Mayilsamy, one of the leading comedians of the Tamil cinema who has entertained audiences in over two hundred films, passed away today due to a sudden cardiac arrest. It is reported that the 57 years old complained of discomfort at his home in Virugambakkam and his family rushed him to the Porur Ramachandra Hospital. The doctors there declared him dead.
Mailsamy who hails from Sathyamangalam in Erode district was born in 1965 and started his career as a mimicry artiste. His first film was K.Bhagyaraj's 'Dhavani Kanavagual' in a minisicule role followed by Pandiarajan's 'Kanni Raasi'. His big break came with Kamal Haasan's 'Apoorva Sagodharargal' followed by 'Vettri Vizha' after which there was no turning back.
To the modern audiences Mayilswamy will be long remembered for his hilarious roles in Dhanush's 'Yaaradi Nee Mohini', 'Polladhavan' and 'Uyarntha Manithan' and also his collab with the late Vivek in several films including 'Dhool' and also 'Yaamirukka Bayamen'.
Mayilswamy was also a philonthropist who always gave a helping hand for the needy and has done social service during natural disasters and the coronavirus pandemic. He had strong political views and never shied in expressing them boldly in his speeches.
Mayilswamy was a spiritual person and incidentally his last night was spent at the Kelambakkam Sivan Temple on the auspicious Sivarathri. A video of him with Drums Sivamani there has gone viral. Several film industry personalities including Kamal Haasan, Chiyaan Vikram, Venkat Prabhu and R. Sarathkumar have expressed their condolences to the departed soul. #RIPMAYILSWAMY
