Comedy and character actor Karunakaran has been hospitalized and has undergone surgery in his leg for ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) correction. He has stated that he hurt his leg during the shooting of 'Pizza' and 'Soodhu Kavvum' and experienced pain often but had ignored it for long.

Now it is said that before lockdown during the last day of shooting of Simbu's 'Maanadu' in which Karunakaran plays an important role he was injured once again. He had apparently suffered in pain for the past few months due to lockdown and only recently went for a scan.

Surgery has been conducted successfully on Karunakaran and he has been advised two weeks rest after which he would be discharged. The actor currently has 'Panni Kutty' and 'Trip' both costarring Yogi Babu that is set for release soon after the lockdown ends. He also has a meaty role in Sivakarthikeyan's SciFi thriller 'Ayalaan' directed by Ravikumar and the sequel of 'Indru Nettru Naalai'.
