The noted bard of Tamil cinema Vairamuthu made news recently for all the wrong reasons. In a function, the poet had talked about an Amercian scholar who touted that revered mystic Andal belonged to the Devadasi community.

Even though the poet has expressed his apologies for having hurt the sentiments of people, still many protests are going on against himj demanding that he should come to Srivilliputhuur and seek apologies for what he said. Meanwhile Vivek has let out his thoughts on the issue.

“We should respect everyone’s religious beliefs. Andal is a revered and divinely blessed poetess belonging to Alwars. We do not need some foreigner’s viewpoint on this,” he said. Moreover he also stated that a noted writer like Vairamuthu asking apology and the matter being forgiven defines civilisation.
