He was awaiting a liver donor during his stay at the hospital. Recently, Bala and his wife celebrated their wedding anniversary at the hospital. In their anniversary celebration video, the actor revealed about the transplant surgery. The actor himself acknowledged that the surgery would be risky, but he was willing to undergo it as the chances of survival were high.

On Thursday, the actor underwent a successful liver transplant surgery at a private hospital in Kochi. After the surgery, he was transferred to the post-operative ICU. The news was disclosed by the hospital management. Bala's wife Elizabeth had earlier informed that he would undergo the surgery soon and had requested well-wishers for their prayers. She also expressed their desire to dance together after he recovers and share a video of the same on their next anniversary.

Meanwhile, Abhirami Suresh, the sister of Bala's former wife Amrita Suresh, has expressed that her family is also praying for Bala's quick recovery.
