What is it all about?
A criminal waste of the awesome Ajay Devgn and the entertainingly massy Prabhudeva in this despicable and messy mix of action and comedy. Action Jackson lacks even the basics value needed to make it a crowd pleasing pleasure. This AJ (Ajay Devgn) in PD (Prabhudeva) shadow is all hustle without much bustle.
The Story
The writers A.C. Mughil, Prabhudheva and Shiraz Ahmed in the name of ‘entartainment’ pen this strange blend of action and comedy where small things work but big things don't. AJ (Ajay Devgn) is the right hand of a wrong man - a bald gangster from Bangkok (Anand Raj) one day he ‘Kill Bills’ the goondas and saves the gangster’s sultry sister Marina (Manasvi Mamgai). The gangster babe now falls for the AJ and gasps for him who is committed to Yami Gautam.
The attraction turns fatal as all the attempts by this chikni babe with a strange tattoo goes kaput as AJ doesn,t care.. so Bhaiya teaches a lesson to his right hand and injures AJ’s pregnant wife.. AJ who is already leading a rehabilitated peaceful life with his wife is forced to come to Mumbai where Sonakshi Sinha bums in and things go out of control adding to chaos and confusion..
Sadly this humdrum is scripted in such a manner that the buzz wears off within first 15 minutes of the film and when the AJ part comes in to salvage it’s already late.
What to look out for
Ajay Devgn as AJ is awesomely blooming in fight scenes. Its sheer AD’s talent that keeps the violence exhilarating. Ajay Devgna’s megawatt star power exudes striking charm as the no nonsense AJ whose action is the biggest saving grace.
Ravi Varma compliments Ajay Devgn’s character with some entertaining action that is likely to go well with Devgn fans and action buffs. Cinematography by Vijay Kumar Arora is catchy.
Anand Raj impresses with his villainy. Manasvi Mamgai leaves a ravishing mark. Yami Gautam is passable.
What not
Working in action in bits and pieces this action comedy fails terribly in comedy and has a pathetic background score by Sandeep Chowta (irritating to the hilt demanding a ‘supari’ of his name to be given to the gangster in the film).
What looked like a masterstroke on paper the combo of Ajay Devgn and Prabhudeva in this blend of action and drama with Devgn himself as the lead promised a clap worthy complete paisa vasool fun for the entertainment hungry souls of popular cinema.
But its disheartening to find the same Ajay Devgn and Prabhudeva indulging in outrageous buffoonery that doesn’t go well with Ajay Devgn’s image as an intensity personified actor we have known him for.
Yes he has the neck for buffoonery and its Rohit Shetty who has being terrifically successful in exploiting Ajay Devgn’s funny side.. Prabhudeva fails to do so and crosses the line..
Ajay Devgn in the comedy scenes is not the one his true fans would like to see.. As rightly put by Sonakshi in the film ‘He was a Singham... but now I have reduced him to a chewing gum".
On top of it Sonakshi has another unwanted role to her credit. In fact the debutant Manasvi Mamgai had a meatier role then her that also included an item number.
Kunaal Roy Kapur is misfit and probably was taken because it’s a trend to have a side kick. The dialogues by rhyme master Shiraz Ahmed are a bizarre twist to Salman Khan’s iconic lines..commitment.. punishment..Dil Mein.. Dimaag mein.. ending up as an un’wanted’ tribute to Salman Khan.
We didn,t expected this from a touted Ajay Devgn’s action packed entertainer. The music by Himesh Reshammiya is another let down.
Conclusion: Sometimes you are unfortunate to have a coochie cooing couple or an incessantly crying baby besides your seat while watching your movie and sometimes that annoying sample is the movie itself. ‘Action Jackson’ is such a criminal waste of awesome Ajay Devgn and the commercially reliable Prabhudeva.. ‘moon walk’ to the nearest theater only if you are the biggest fan and who cares a damn.
