Rahul Gandhi has congratulated economist Abhijit Banerjee on winning the Nobel Prize in Economics. The India-born economist was a Congress party adviser and it's he who conceived the grand NYAY scheme. As per this scheme, which was the biggest promise of the party ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the bottom five crore families would get Rs 72,000 per annum to come out of poverty. This would have cost Rs 3.60 lakh Cr per year. The Congress lost the election badly despite this promise.
Incidentally, the same economist has won the Nobel Prize this year. Taking to Twitter with pride, Rahul not only lauded him but also made it a point to allege that Modi is boosting poverty.
"Abhijit helped conceptualise NYAY that had the power to destroy poverty and boost the Indian economy. Instead we now have Modinomics, that’s destroying the economy and boosting poverty," the ex-Congress President said.
