A very shrewd story writer Janardhana Maharshi has made a story for `Abhay' that look like an assorted one from the recent half a dozen Kannada films. There is nothing new and the recent `Rajani' starring Upendra was almost similar. Winning the lover after half a dozen senseless, mindless actions by the hero is an outdated theme. It is high time challenging star Darshan accept some challenging subjects that showcase his acting potentiality!

The chartered accountant Abhay (Darshan) meets Arthi (Arthi Thakur) on his way to Switzerland and falls in love. Although Arthi continuously decline to heed to the demand of Abhay the past of her is very interesting for Abhay. Arthi has run away after an engagement with MLA's brother Pandu. That is because of nefarious connections of Pandu and his siblings. Abhay works out a plot and hand over Arthi to Pandu in the house of MLA and later comes to the same house on tailored story that the family members believe. How Abhay is caught just before the marriage of Arthi to Pandu plus the lengthy fight is the climax of this very ordinary stuff `Abhay' Kannada cinema.

The action, romance and immaculate looks of Darshan are a treat for his fans. But he has not tried out anything new from this film. Even the dialogues are not punching. Arthi looks jaded, Rawath as rabble rouser is very difficult to digest. Omprakash Rao comedy is the only relief factor.

There are two songs from V Harikrishna that are sung well and stored well by cameraman Ramesh Babu. The outdoor locations and action portions are chilling.

This is another action film of the week for Kannada audience.
