Aamir Khan on why action films are not so successful anymore

Action has been one of the most popular and successful genres of Bollywood since a long time but in recent years, most of Hindi action flicks have failed to impress the audience. Recent films like 'Heropanti 2', 'Dhaakad' and 'Rashtra Kawach Om' are some examples of extravagant action movies which were effectively rejected by the audience. Aamir Khan who will soon be seen in 'Laal Singh Chaddha' recently stated that action in movies only works when there is a good storyline to compliment it.

In a recent interview with Galatta Plus, Aamir shared the example of his iconic film 'Ghajini' and stated, "I think the audience is happy to watch any kind of film. Irrespective of genre, there has to be an emotional connection. As an audience, I would not be interested if only the action is happening. Look at Ghajini, it’s an action film. But, why is action happening? It’s a beautiful love story between Sanjay and Kalpana. And when Kalpana gets killed then the action happens. I want to see that."

The actor concluded, "As an audience, I’m upset that Kalpana got killed. Ghajini is essentially a love story but action is the second layer to that. Kalpana is the heart of Ghajini. South filmmakers are very connected to the audiences. Perhaps, we have lost that connection. We have to re-look that. And south films are teaching us."
