Aaha Kalyanam Music Review

Since Aaha Kalyanam is the remake of a Bollywood number, much was expected from the album.  The album more than meets the expectations because it presents us what we did not look for: a Bollywoodian feel for at least 3 songs.

Rendered by a range of singers, the album has got everything from fine lyrics to apt music.

Dancing Dancing

Artists: Sunidhi Chauhan, Hari Charan

One clearly sees the imprint of Bollywood shaadi songs in this number.  Dharan Kumar's music is a welcome change.  Sunidhi Chauhan's vocals are the biggest asset.

Honeyae Honeyae

Artist: Naresh Iyer

Was this song farmed out to Mickey J Meyer?  An enjoyable number, it is high on melody as well as lyrics.  Naresh Iyer's vocals induce a sense of deja vu.  Dharan Kumar's music comes with influences, but that can be overlooked if we enjoy the effervescence of his music.

Mike Testing 123

Artist: Chinmayi

The song is brilliantly Bollywoodish.  Be it the tuning or the instrumentation, Mike Testing is a treat to listen.  Chinmayi's vocals fit the bill quite well.  The lyrics capture the jamborific mood of a girl who has fallen in love.

Savari Savari

Artists: Gana, Usha Uttup

The song is an excellent blending of the vocals of Gana and Usha Uttup.  Together, they lend a Kollywoodish feel, even as the instrumentation is nimble.  The lyrics are philosophical.

Nuvvo Sagam Neno Sagam

Artist: Shakthisree Gopalan

The slow pace of the song may take some time to register.  The lyrics come with meaning and Shakthisree Gopalan's vocals are just about ok.  The music comes with influences and this makes the song just another routine number.

Urumu Mundo

Artists: Naresh Iyer, Swetha Menon

The song will surely be lapped up by music lovers.  Coming with all the ingredients of a complete romantic number, it has everything from good music to meaningful lyrics and excellent vocals.  Naresh Iyer and Swetha Menon breathe life into the song, while the music is soothing.

Aahya Kalyanam

Artists: Chorus

The song is in tune with the larger feel of the song.  It reminds us of numbers in the films of everyone from Krishna Vamsi to Yash Raj.

The Punch Song

Artists: MM Manasi, Nivas

The song is the odd-man out in the album.  The so-called punch song is a rip off of some memorable punch dialogues.  MM Manasi's vocals clearly outshine that of Nivas.  The lyrics are entertaining; so also the music, which is massy and catchy.

Nuvvo Sagam Neno Sagam

Artist: Abhay Jodhpurkar

The male version of the song with the same title is equally good as the original avatar.  Abhay Jodhpurkar puts up a nimble performance.  The lyrics have good enough depth.

Virise Virise

Artist: Supriya Ramalingam

The soothing number is musical.  Supriya Ramalingam's vocals are definitely offbeat.  If the music comes across as a rip-off of some Kollywood numbers, the lyrics are brilliantly poetic.
