In unexpected turn of events, the release of Madhuri Dixit-Juhi Chawla starrer ‘Gulaab Gang’ has been put on hold.

Stay has been imposed by the Delhi High Court following a complaint filed by women rights activist Sampat Pal, who heads a rural organisation Gulabi Gang and on whom Anubhav Sinha’s film is alleged to be based on. According to Pal’s plea, the movie makers failed to obtain her permission and copyrights for adapting Gulabi Gang and her activities into their movie. Turning up at the court in her trademark Pink sari, Pal also justified how the film will affect her financially as well as reputation by using her Gulabi Gang without her permission. She also pointed out that the film contained some defamatory content.

According to reports, the court has ordered film’s banner Sahara One Media and Entertainment Limited, the producer of the film not to release, exhibit, distribute and promote the film till the next date of hearing on May 8.
