Unbeknownst to Somnath at the time, a growth had been detected in one of his scans. "There were some health issues during the Chandrayaan-3 mission launch," Somnath recalled. "However, it was not clear to me at the time."

On September 2, 2023, as India's first space-based solar observatory embarked on its mission to study the Sun, Somnath underwent further scans that confirmed the presence of a hereditary disease.

"It was a shock for the family," Somnath confided to Tarmak Media House. "But now, I perceive cancer and its treatment as a solution." His pragmatic approach and unwavering spirit carried him through the ordeal. "I was uncertain about a complete cure at the time," he admitted. "But I was hopeful."

Miraculously, Somnath's recovery was swift. After spending a mere four days in the hospital, he resumed his duties at ISRO with no lingering pain. "I will be undergoing regular checkups and scans," Somnath explained. "But now I am completely cured and have resumed my duties."
