Ever since Mani Rathnam and A.R. Rahman came together for 'Roja' in 1992 they have been churning one hit album after another for the past 26 years. The audience go to the theaters first to enjoy the duo's songs and only then start taking notice of other aesthetics of the film. However there is one super hit song from the Mani-Rahman combo that according to the director himself contributed to the failure of the film.
The song is "Rasaathee enn usuru ennathu illa" in 'Thiruda Thiruda' and Vairamuthu revealed that everyone in the team were floored. Director Bharathiraja who had come visiting for discussions of his film 'Kizhakku Seemaiyile' fought with Vairamuthu that such a song should have been written for him.
After the movie failed, Mani Ratnam had told Vairamuthu that 'Rasathee song contributed negatively as fans who listened to it and were swayed expected a high intensity love track but the film was a light hearted romcom. Mani accepted in an interview that the song was out of place and he knew it but because of the love for it he shot it for 'Thiruda Thiruda'. Vairamuthu has conceded that he learnt from this mistake to write according to the demands of the story and not go overboard.
