With another prequel series, âA Knight of the Seven Kingdomsâ HBO is poised to enlarge the Game of Throne realm. Readers of George R. R. Martin's writings will be known with Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire, thus this new spin-off will center on them. Long hinted to by Martin, who would co-write and executive produce the series, a Dunk and Egg adaptation was announced by HBO in May 2024.
Originally set for a 2025 premiere, HBO and Max president Casey Bloys revealed the show at an upfront Warner Bros. Discovery presentation. Belfast, Ireland is already seeing production start. The title, âA Knight of the Seven Kingdomsâ, hints the series will borrow from Martin's novellas on Dunk and Egg. âThe Hedge Knightâ, the first novella, tracks Dunk's trip to a tournament at Ashford Meadow where he meets Egg.
Aegon Targaryen is Egg's actual name; he subsequently becomes King Aegon V Targaryen. Originally from the first âGame of Thronesâ series, Maester Aemon, his older brother, befriends Jon Snow at The Wall. The production team revealed in April 2024 that Dexter Sol Ansell from âThe Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakesâ will play Egg and Peter Claffey from âVikings: Valhallaâ will play Dunk.
Among the other cast members are Finn Bennett as Aerion Targaryen, Bertie Carvel as Baelor Targaryen, Tanzyn Crawford as Tanselle, Daniel Ings as Ser Lyonel Baratheon, and Sam Spruell as Maekar Targaryen. There will be six episodes in the show; Owen Harris, another executive producer, will direct the last three while Sarah Adina Smith directs the first three.
Along with Ryan Condal, Vince Gerardis, Owen Harris, and Sarah Bradshaw, Martin and âHouse of the Dragonâ author Ira Parker will be authors and executive producers.
