If you have been to the movie Andhagadu, then you know that the super hit movie was taken with a fresh idea If you haven't watched the movie, then you should know about the hype surrounding Andhagadu.
We got to chat with the director of Andhagadu this week and he said a lot of things about the movie and his experience working as a part of the team of Andhagadu.
This is your first movie ever as a director...How do you feel about it?
I came into the industry as a writer and I always wanted to be a writer. The story of Andhagadu came along and a lot of people encouraged me to take up the job as director and make Andhagadu. And now I'm here. I feel very proud yet grateful to have done such a good movie as my first venture. I have always believed in making a good movie not a successful movie.
How did the idea of Andhagadu come along?
When I was walking around a certain hostel meant for blind people. I observed that blind people are quicker than most of us. They are so confident and do not let their disability stand as an obstacle in their path. That's the kind of spirit that inspired me to make Andhagadu. Nobody made such a movie in the recent times. It is a fresh story and people loved it.
Who encouraged you to pursue direction?
V.V. Vinayak sir was the first person I decided to go narrate the story to. He listened to few scenes that I narrated and asked me to take up the job as a director. I never expected that. But here we are. He is a good story judge and I felt it was right to go to him, first. One thing lead to another and things worked out.
How did you get Raj Tarun to do this role?
Raj Tarun is the kind of actor who can convince the audience through his acting. That was exactly the kind of actor I was looking for. I narrated the story to him and he immediately liked it. He even arranged some producers and I we happened to choose Anil Sunkara as the producer for Andhagadu.
How was working with Anil Sunkara?
He was very easy to work with. He gave me a lot of freedom and he spent exactly on what was needed. At first, he felt a little hesitation and used to visit the set every day but I sent him some completed scenes and he gained some confidence in me and trusted me. From there, he never visited the set. He only called once ina while. Gaining the producer's trust is an important job. I was lucky that I got to work with him. He is a great man.
Super hit directors like V.V. Vinayak and Vikram have congratulated you on your success. How do you feel about it?
I am glad they liked my work. It's very nice of them to call me personally and congratulate me about Andhagadu. Vinayak sir said that he liked the screenplay and the climax of the movie which turned out to be a surprise for a lot of people. I was very stoked and grateful.
The story was misinterpreted to be Kokila. Is that true?
Andhagadu is nothing like Kokila. People judged the story based on the trailer but movie is entirely different compared to the trailer. A lot of people were surprised with the 'twists' in the movie. Do not go with these misinterpretations. Andhagadu is an original story.
What would you like to say about Andhagadu?
It's a full on family entertainer with a great story. It will definitely pull at your heart strings at some points and will make you cackle most of the time. You will have a great time watching this movie. The team worked extremely hard and everyone was very comfortable to work with. I cannot be more grateful to be blessed with such success on my first venture.
The movie's trailer received a massive 2 million views in the first week of it's release and a grand 40 million opening on its first day. A movie you shouldn't miss watching.
