Cinematographer director Balu Mahendra is busy giving a final shape to his long pending project Athu Oru Kanaa Kaalam.

The movie starring Dhanush has been in the making for over a year.

Balu Mahendra says "though I have directed several films, Athu Oru Kanaa Kaalam is the first film for which I have taken so much time. For a quality product one can take enough time."

But he is happy working with Dhanush. "I have worked with several veteran actors in the industry. Now combining with a youngster like Dhanush was no difficult task for me as I have a young and fresh mind, though I have grown old. He is an excellent actor.

Unfortunately directors who made films with him tried to showcase him as an action hero. In my movie, a calm and subtle Dhanush can be seen".

The director with a sensitive and soft approach feels that there is still space for his kind of movies.

"Good movies will be accepted by the people today. A film like Shankarabaranam took a long time to be completed and grace the theatres. However it did wonders at the box-office and so would Athu Oru Kanaa Kaalam", he says.
