Kamal Haasan-Gauthami starrer Papanasam` has just released last week and it has been running with packed houses with tremendous positive reviews from all who have watched the film. While the film is marching ahead towards the super hit status, a big blow has come to the makers in the form of entertainment tax.

The Tamil Nadu Government has formed a committee to decide on whether a film is eligible for the 30% entertainment tax exemption. The basic criterion for this is the film getting a U` certificate from Censor board.

The Tamil Nadu Government has laid down that a film`s content should follow the values of Tamil culture, tradition and it should not set any bad example for the society. Only if these are followed apart from getting a U` certificate, will a film be eligible for the exemption

The Jeetu Joseph directed Papanasam` has obtained a clean U` certificate for thanks to its content, but one of the members in the committee who watched the film has recommended that entertainment tax, exemption not be granted for the film as it projects policemen in a bad light, has scenes where a young woman is video-graphed in an obscene manner and blackmailed and a dialogue in the film suggests that all kinds of sins can be cleared by taking a bath in the Papanasam river. These according to the member are setting bad precedents to the society and giving wrong messages to the people.

Due to this the much needed entertainment tax has been reportedly denied for the film due to which the profit share out of the theatrical collections made by the film is set to take a beating.
