The Andhra Pradesh Assembly today repealed the three-capitals Bill in a surprise turn of events. Amid rumours that the Jaganmohan Reddy government will revert to the one-capital formula, the Chief Minister later made a fresh announcement in the Assembly.
"We will introduce another a better bill. It will be comprehensive in nature. We have to explain to all sections of people the need for equitable development. There have been many suspicions and several misconceptions," Jagan said in the Assembly.
The repeal of the three-capitals Bill was passed in a matter of minutes.
Earlier in the day, there were rumours that the YCP government will make Vizag the sole capital of Andhra Pradesh. But it doesn't seem to be the case. The CM is in favour of, what he calls, equitable development.
Kurnool was to be the judicial capital, while Amaravati and Vizag were legislative and executive capitals, respectively, as per the old bill. It has to be seen whether this will be retained or not in the coming years.
What is clear is that the capitals issue is not going to conclude anytime soon. There are going to be controversies and conspiracy theories galore.
