96 was one of the most successful movie of 2018, and the romantic entertainer which was the directorial debut of cinematographer turned director Premkumar turned out to be an important movie in the careers of Makkal Selvan Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha who played the lead roles.

Following the success of 96, the movie's remake rights became hot in the trade, and the Kannada remake of the movie starring Ganesh and Bhavana and directed by Preetham Gubbi has been titled as 99 and is gearing up for a release soon, while an update is out on Telugu remake of 96.

The Telugu version is directed by Premkumar himself, and Govind Vasantha who scored music for the original scores music for this version as well. The latest buzz is that the team is planning to name the movie as either Jaanu or Janaki Devi, after the character name of the female lead. The official announcement can be expected soon, on this movie that stars Sharwanand and Samantha as Ram and Jaanu.
