In order to aid the relief and rehabilitation in Odisha following the cyclone Fani, the Hong Kong government has approved $9 million for the cause. This could benefit 45100 people. The storm had killed 64 and destroyed several lakhs of houses in the coastal areas. The huge amount from Hong Kong’s Disaster Relief Fund to three agencies has been approved. The grant will be used to provide hygiene kits, kitchen kits, water, education, household items and shelter kits for the cyclone victims.
A spokesperson from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) said: “To ensure that the money is used for the designated purposes, the relief agencies will be asked to submit evaluation reports and audited accounts on the use of the grants after the relief projects have been completed.” This will help ensure that the victims get the help they need.
