It's known that hundreds of journalists in Telangana have contracted coronavirus since March. The latest reports say that as many as 822 journalists have contracted the virus in Telangana. They include reporters, stringers, photo and video journalists, etc.

The news is that, so far, Rs 1.55 Cr has been given to the infected journalists towards medical expenses. This has been made possible because the State Media Academy was allotted Rs 34.50 Cr towards financial assistance. Interest accruing from the deposited money has been spent on infected journalists.

A recent TNIE report said that each infected journo has been given Rs 20,000, while each of those in home quarantine has been given Rs 10,000.

CM K Chandrasekhar Rao had granted Rs 100 Cr at the onset of the pandemic so that the Journalist Welfare Fund is financially ready to help out needy journos.
