Diya, who studies in class 3 in Kerala, exhibited incredible bravery and saved her little brother's life. The incident happened on Tuesday at 5 pm, the courageous eight-year-old girl saved her two-year-old brother, Ivan (Akku), who had fallen into a well. The family, who stays in a rented home, was carrying out daily chores when the incident occurred. Their mother, Shajila, was washing dishes, while Diya and her younger sister, Duniya, were helping their mother in the laundry. When no one was watching, Ivan climbed onto the iron grill covering the well and fell into the over 20-ft-deep well after the rusted central portion of the cover broke.
On hearing her brother's cries for help, Diya rushed to the well and saw him struggling to stay afloat. Without delay, she climbed down into the well through a PVC pipe, held Ivan close to her, and held onto the pipe with her other hand. Upon hearing Shajila's wails, neighbours rushed to the scene and rescued both the children from the well. Ivan sustained a minor injury to his head and is being observed at the pediatric intensive care unit of the Alappuzha Medical College Hospital. The doctors have assured that there is no need for concern, and Diya did not sustain any injuries.
Dr. KA Jitesh, the Superintendent of Mavelikkara District Hospital, visited the home of the child, as instructed by Minister Veena George, and presented sweets to commend the child. Additionally, the minister made a video call to the doctor's phone and spoke to the child, wishing her well and expressing her joy to the child's mother. The minister commented that Diya's love for her brother had warmed her heart.
