In a miraculous incident, a 71-year-old woman named Sudharma gave birth to a healthy baby girl in Kerala. Sudharma and her husband Surendran lost their only son Sujith (35) one and a half years ago. Heartbroken by their son's demise, the elderly couple decided to have another child despite their age barriers.

The couple approached the doctors for in vitro fertilization (IVF). Though the doctors repeatedly discouraged them as it is very risky to bear a child considering her age, the couple was firm on their decision.

Thus Dr. Lalithambika Karunakaran, head of the gynecology department at Alappuzha medical college, made the couple's dream come true through IVF. The baby was born through a cesarean session at 32 weeks of pregnancy. The baby girl weighed only 1100 grams at birth. After the baby's weight increased to 1350 grams, she was given to her parents. The happy couple named the newborn Sreelakshmi.
