The deadliest mass shooting, surpassing even the Orlando shooting massacre at a nightclub, 58 people have been killed and at least 500 injured, on route 91 at the open air music festival in Las Vegas. The deadly attack, named one of "pure evil" by the US president Donald Trump, is also a case of strange mystery.
What broke out like the sound of fireworks at the concert, was gruesomely discovered eventually to be 15 minutes of random shooting from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel, at the audience strength of 30,000 people. Police have identified that the mess was created singlehandedly by 64-year old gunman Stephen Paddock, who was found dead in his room, when the police broke into the place. In an official statement, the police say that 10 rifles were retrieved from Paddock's room, and that he was not in possession of any automatic machine. It is believed that Paddock killed himself.
What magnifies the question mark in this case is the motive. Neither has any terrorist group assumed responsibility for the incident, nor does Paddock have any criminal record on his name. Paddock is a retiree, leaving in Las Vegas; his roommate, now in Phillipines, is also clear of any guilt of relation with the attack. When contacted, Paddock's brother testified that Stephen was in fairly good touch with his family, and that it is a puzzle why he could have committed such a crime. As of now, the police have confirmed that the shooting is not a terrorist attack. Nonetheless, this incident stands to be the deadliest attack in the modern day USA.
