The Telugu-language General Entertainment Channel Star MAA has ensured that more than 500 people associated with the beleaguered TV industry have income security in these harsh times. With thousands rendered jobless since March (when the TV industry was shut down besides the movie industry), the TV channel has donated Rs 55 lakh as a philanthropic gesture to more than 500 members working in technical and non-technical crafts.

"The monetary outgo has benefited art assistants, production staff, assistants to artists, freelancers, and technicians associated with the TV industry," a source says.

The recipients, many of whom were working on TV serials and programs before the lockdown, have received Rs 10,000 each. Daily wage workers, too, have received the handouts.
