In Kerala, a 4-month-old baby girl who was being treated for the COVID-19 virus died this morning at 6. The baby was diagnosed with heart problems at birth and was also suffering from pneumonia.
The baby was admitted to a private hospital with breathing problems on April 17 and later shifted to Kozhikode Medical College on April 21 after developing severe pneumonia. This is the third COVID-19 death in the state after two elderly people had succumbed to death earlier.
Announcing the news, Kerala's Health Minister KK Shailaja said, "The four-month-old baby was admitted because she had breathing difficulties. The baby had heart disease from the time of birth and was being treated at a private hospital. We usually test patients with respiratory illness for COVID-19. This child tested positive. We tried our best but couldn't save her." However, it is not clear how she got infected with the virus.
Meanwhile, the baby's parents are in quarantine and their samples have been sent for coronavirus testing. Their results are awaited. As of Thursday morning, Kerala had reported 447 COVID-19 cases, of which 324 have recovered. Presently, 127 people are getting treated for the deadly disease.
