4 out of 5 Indians want Army to take over, Pew research survey says

In an interesting finding, a research conducted by Pew Research Centre has revealed that four out of five Indians trust the Government and the democratic functioning yet they won’t be ‘averse’ to the idea of the Army taking over at the Centre.

“Indian economy has been registering a steady growth of not less than 6.9% per annum since 2012.  85% of the people of the country (close to 100 crores) is trusting the Modi-led Government hoping it won’t betray their interests,” the survey says.  Pew has been conducting research in various countries based on the trust/confidence people of the country show in their rulers.

Almost 27% of those surveyed said that the country wanted a ‘strong leader’ at the Centre while 55% have said that they would fee absolutely comfortable with the military rule.  Survey in Russia has echoed a similar sentiment with 48% of those surveyed insisting on the need for a strong leader even as they said they believed and had faith in the present regime.

More Indians than Russians appeared to prefer a democratic set up to govern them.  In Asia-Pacific countries, people expected the Govt. to consist those well-versed in all sorts of technologies. India figured prominent among the list of countries liked the most by those (other than Indians) surveyed.

55% Indians and 52% South Africans felt strongly that their respective countries needed to be run by the Army and not by a democratically-elected Government.  Those in the category of more than 50 years of age, however, expressed their complete trust in democracy.
