Four employees of GRT Jewellers showroom in Coimbatore have tested positive for the novel coronavirus yesterday. 3 out of the four staffers had reached Coimbatore from Chennai without e-passes and didn't follow the home quarantine rules of the state government. The fourth employee who had e pass, was tested at the district checkpost and had tested COVID-19 positive.
The GRT showroom located at Cross Cut Road, Gandhipuram was sealed by the district administration for violations of the Disaster Management Act and lockdown regulations. Police have filed cases against the showroom manager and the staff who had entered the district without valid e-passes. Currently, the district administration is working on contact tracing.
It was after receiving a tip-off about 30 GRT Jewellers employees transported from Chennai without an e-pass that the district authorities investigated and sealed the showroom on Saturday. Without following the mandatory home quarantine period of 14 days, the employees started working. Now the City Corporation has disinfected all the floors in the showroom and sealed it. The showroom manager has been booked under various provisions of the law including sections 269, 270 and 188 of the IPC and section 3 of the Epidemic Diseases Act.
