An Italian student who was stranded in Spain due to the coronavirus pandemic was driven more than 1,500 kilometers to her home, free of charge by a large hearted taxi driver. 22 year old driver Kepa Amantegi drove 22 year old student Giada Collalto from Bilbao, Spain, to Montebello, near Venice, Italy.
Collalto was studying languages in the European exchange program Erasmus in Bilbao and had planned to attend university lectures till June. When the Coronavirus pandemic began she decided to stay back in Spain, but in March the university was closed and her stay in Spain became unnecessarily.
After her two Spanish flatmates left, Collalto was left alone and while she managed to get a plane ticket from Madrid to Paris, then to Rome and then to Venice, she however wasn't allowed to board. She then came to know about taxi driver Amantegi through a friend and he immediately agreed to help her. After a travel of more than 3000 kms, Amantegi didn't want to be paid by Collalto and said he just wanted to help her in the difficult situation.
