Shankar-directed Telugu and Tamil remake of 3 Idiots (2009) is releasing for Sankranthi. The same has been confirmed by the celebrated director himself, who wrote on a micro-blogging site that the film was complete save some post-production works and that it would be released on the 14th of January.

The film is being talked about for the presence of Vijay, Jeeva and Illeana in the leads. It may be noted that Gemini Film Circuit was to do the film with Mahesh Babu in the lead. (Earlier, Pawan's name too had made the rounds). Owing to dates problems with Mahesh, he could not sign on the film.

Shankar roped in Vijay, who reprises Aamir Khan's role. Sathyaraj is playing Boman Irani's role, while SJ Suryah plays the brief cameo in which Javed Jaffri was seen in the original.

Music-directed by Harris Jayraj, the film has Illeana stepping into Kareena Kapoor's shoes.

Come Sankranthi, the much-touted film will compete with big Telugu originals like The Businessman. For Vijay, this is the first high-profile release in Telugu.
