Three persons from Mannargudi, who indulged in killing their near and dear ones in the name of ‘honour-killings’, have been awarded life sentence by a Thanjavur Court.
The Judge has added in his verdict that the trio should never be released before the end of the prison term even if they displayed exemplary behavior while in prison. Palaniyappan and Amirthavalli from different castes got married and were brutally murdered in 2014 by Palaniyappan’s brothers. Even their one month-old child couldn’t escape from the blood-hungry relatives who saw caste above soul.
Sivasubramaniam, Ramakrishnan and Durairaj, brothers of Palaniyapan and Mahendran, all from Keezhamarudur, were arrested in connection with the case and the trial was going on at the Principal Sessions’ Court in Thanjavur. Delivering the verdict yesterday, Justice Karthikeyan awarded 37 years of prison term to Sivasubramaniam and 30 years each to Ramakrishnan and Durairaj. Mahendran, who was their accomplice, got three years in prison.
Justice Karthikeyan added a rider in his verdict stating that the detainees should never be released on important public holidays/days of national significance in future even if they displayed exemplary behavior in prison.
