2020: Chances of flood again in Kerala?

Kerala has almost recovered from Covid-19 but it looks like gearing will have to face yet another challenge. According to a latest report, there is a high possibility of Kerala facing an intense rainfall for a third consecutive year of catastrophic flooding. With shattering rains, there is a high possibility of flood and dams to get filled, say reports.
This year the state did not receive normal summer rains and so the temperature has been high over the past one and a half months. This will result in heating of the atmosphere, resulting in strong North-West winds hitting Kerala, making it favorable for rains.
According to India Meteorological Department (IMD) predictions, there is a high probability (70 per cent) of 2020 monsoon rainfall being above normal to excess. However, former IMD chairman S Sudevan says that it is difficult to predict rainfall two months in advance. “Forecasts can be made only 10 to 15 days in advance. We cannot predict anything now. All we can do is prepare a dynamic model and monitor the situation qualitatively,” said Sudevan in an interview with Indian Express.
