20,000 cops on duty as PM Modi arrives to inaugurate ‘Amma Scooter’ scheme

As many as 20,000 cops have been put in high-alert security duty as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to visit Chennai today to inaugurate the AIADMK Govt.’s ambitions ‘Amma Subsidized Scooter’ scheme which gives 50% or Rs.25,0000/- off (whichever is less) to working women to encourage them to take to two-wheeler driving in a big way.
Security has been beefed up at the Chennai Airport where a seven-layered security system has been put in place. The prime-minister would be taking part in the birthday celebrations of former Tamil Nadu chief-minister J. Jayalalithaa and would also be inaugurating the late leader’s ambitious scheme of ‘Amma Subsidized Scooter’ giving 50% or Rs.25,000/- subsidy (whichever is less) to working women to purchase scooter.
Modi, who was close to the former chief-minister, would be inaugurating the scheme at Kalaivanar Arangam at Chepauk this afternoon. Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit, chief-minister Edapadi K. Palaniswami, deputy chief-minister O. Panneerselvam, Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker Thambithurai, State Ministers, MPs, MLAs and high-ranking Govt. officials would be taking part at the function.
Passengers at the Chennai Airport are frisked hard before they are allowed into the terminal to take domestic/international fights. As many as 20,000 policemen would be on duty in the city to provide foolproof security to the prime-minister. After the function, the Prime Minister is likely to spend the night at Raj Bhawan from where he would leave for Puducherry by chopper and would reach New Delhi on Sunday night.
