A 20-year-old cybersecurity analyst has won a reward of $30,000 (Rs. 22 lakh) for identifying a Remote Code Execution (RCE) bug in Microsoft's Azure cloud system that comes with severe security impact.
The self-taught ethical hacker had reportedly found a similar bug in Facebook nearly two months ago and had won a bounty of $7500 (over Rs 5.5 lakh) then. The 20-year-old has stated that the RCE bug is relatively new and is currently not being paid much attention to. Through such bugs, hackers can apparently get access to internal systems and the information they hold. Aditi has revealed that she has been into ethical hacking for the past 2 years and that her neighbour's WiFi password was her first hack.
The 20-year-old girl was quoted as saying by a news agency, "I took an interest in ethical hacking when I was preparing for NEET, my medical entrance in Kota. I didn't get through in medical school but have found bugs in over 40 companies including Facebook, Tiktok, Microsoft, Mozilla, Paytm, Ethereum, HP, among others. I was certain I wanted to get into ethical hacking after I reported an OTP bypass bug in TikTok's Forgot Password section and won a bounty of $1100."
Speaking about the various resources available online for people to learn about ethical hacking, Aditi Singh added, "There are multiple resources on Google, Twitter and Hacker One that have write-ups with explanations about ethical hacking." About being hired on her first job, Aditi reportedly said, "While digging through several platforms, I found some vulnerabilities on MapMyIndia. I reached out to them and managed to get hired without even a graduation degree."
