Twelve people were killed and around 40 people are said to be trapped following the unexpected collapse of a  100-year-old four-storey building in south Mumbai's crowded Dongri locality  today. Five people who were stuck in the building were rescued.

Search operation to find survivors has been carried on by three large teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) at the location which has many buildings which are damaged and require redevelopment as they are extremely old, besides also affected by the recent heavy rains.

Ten ambulances and fire trucks arrived  for the rescue but the lanes were narrow for them to enter. Reportedly, the building  which collapsed was a 100 years old one and the Maharashtra government had issued permission for the redevelopment of the area and the rescue mission is one to save more people trapped in the place.
