19-year old who 'donated' HIV-infected blood repents, dies

A 19-year old youth, who had donated the much-publicised HIV-infected to a Virudhunagar-based pregnant woman recently, died at the Govt. Rajaji Hospital yesterday after repenting about the grave blunder he had committed.
The youth had attempted to take his life four days back and was getting treated for the same. He was also being counselled by psychiatrists against feeling guilty. The blood donated by the youth at a Sathur Govt. Hospital was transfused to the pregnant woman who is also getting treated at the same Hospital after she was diagnosed with HIV virus soon after the blood was injected into her veins.
It was reported a few days back that para-medics at the Sathur Govt. Hospital injected blood without checking for its purity after which they were dismissed from service. The woman, whose health deteriorated soon after, is getting treated at the Hospital. The youth, who gave the HIV-infested blood, attempted to commit suicide by taking rat poison at Ramanathapuram after which he too was ironically rushed to the Rajaji Govt. Hospital in Madurai.
The youth, who had been lamenting repeatedly at the ‘huge blunder’ he had committed by donating blood, succumbed to the poison yesterday.
