Babu Janardhanan has proved himself to be an exceptional writer with films like 'Vasthavam', 'City of God', 'Thalappavu' and ' Achanurangatha Veedu'. Now the talented scriptwriter is all set to be a director of meaningful cinema with his debut venture titled as '1993 Bombay March 12'. The movie curiously titled signifies the dates of the Mumbai serial blasts and as you expect, this is a take on the series of events that unfold in the aftermath of the Mumbai serial blasts.

The movie planned with a multilayered, complex structure will tell the play of fate, which throws us into situations, that we hardly imagine in our wildest dreams. In the depiction of wonderful, but weird game of life, Babu will have  have Megastar Mammootty in the lead donning twin roles with a number of get ups. Basically an emotional family drama with its share of suspense elements, the movie tells the story of Sanathana Bhatt, a Hindu priest, who gets to know about the  premonitions about the bomb blasts of Abidha, a young Muslim women residing in a silent village of Kerala. He was in Chennai to attend a movie Pooja, when the blast occurred.Abidha's only brother Shajahan was one of the job seekers, who landed in Mumbai on the day of blasts. But somehow, Shajahan gets arrested as one of the culprits behind the bomb blasts. The movie goes on to tell what all happens in the lives of these three who don't have any direct link with the blasts.

Bhatt later converts to Islam and becomes Sameer, a Municipality sweeper, marrying Abidha and is trying to lead a silent life. The second role of Mammootty is kept as a big suspense, though the clean shaven, bald makeup of the star is made public.

The movie handles a subject of controversy where anyone with a beard can be easily branded as a terrorist. 1993 Bombay March 12' will also discuss many events prior to the blasts including the Iran-Iraq war and the Babri Masjid issue.

Mammootty will have another meaty role in the movie which is expected to be the best, in recent times with plenty of opportunities to show his caliber as a versatile actor. The director is in full praise of Mammootty who adds that it was the megastar who gave him the courage to take up direction. He has planned this subject for Padmakumar but later decided to make it himself, as he found that it will not be easy for him to convince such a heavy thread to other directors. The director expects that with several layers of intrigue, the movie will be a thrilling experience for viewers. Vipin Mohan is the cameraman. Lyrics by Rafeeq Ahmed have been tuned by Afsal Yusuf. Sonu Nigam, Sadhna Sargam, Zubin Garg, M G Sreekumar and Usha Uthup are the singers, while Vijay shankar does the editing .

Roma is for the first time playing the heroine to Mammootty.  Usually seen playing bubbly roles, Roma will have an  image makeover as Abidha, who is an intense girl from a conventional Muslim family.Unni, Lal, Jagadheesh, Manianpillai raju, Shari, Sudheer Karamana, Sadiq, Irshad, Jyothy, and Seema G Nair are also part of the cast of this movie shot at Rajastan,Coimbatore, Mumbai, Chennai and Alappuzha.

`1993 Bombay March 12' is being produced by Haneef Mohammed under the banner of Red Rose Creations.
