A 19-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by four men in a moving car in Bengaluru on the night of March 25. This horrific incident is reminiscent of the 2012 nirbhaya gang rape case in New Delhi that sparked nationwide protests and led to changes in laws related to sexual abuse. The accused, all aged between 22 and 24, were arrested within eight hours of the crime being reported. The victim underwent a medical examination and is currently recovering.
According to the police, the victim, an office assistant at a software firm, was sitting with a male friend in a park near National Games Village, Koramangala when one of the accused approached them and started an argument. After the accused left the place, the victim stayed back while her friend left. A few moments later, the accused returned with three of his friends, dragged the girl into their car, and drove away, taking turns to rape her while moving around the city's streets via Domlur, Hosur Road, and NICE Road. The victim was later dropped off by the roadside around 3.30 a.m. after being threatened.
The victim reported the incident to her mother, who helped her get medical treatment for her injuries and later filed a complaint with the Koramangala police. The police were able to arrest all four accused, who were identified as Satish, Vijay, Sridhar, and Kiran. Two of them worked as office boys in nearby private firms, one was an electrician, and another was a BPO employee. The accused have been booked under section 376D of the Indian Penal Code for gang rape.
