Following the decriminalization of same-sex relations in September last year, Delhi police have arrested a teenage girl on charges of raping another woman using a sex toy.

The accused, identified as 19-year-old Shivani, allegedly tied artificial male genitalia to her waist and sexually assaulted the woman. The victim, who hails from the north-eastern part of the country reportedly landed herself in trouble in March 2018 when she quit her job to start her own business. Two men, who had promised to invest in her business, lured her to their apartment, where they raped her along with the accused woman. This is the first case of its kind recorded after the 377 verdict, which stated that same-sex intercourse is no longer an offence.

The accused was sent for one-day judicial custody in Tihar jail and was booked under CrPc Section 164, IPC Section 377 and relevant sections of the Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act.
