In an attempt to promote the cinema of the state, all Malayalam films selected for the year's IFFK would be given a cash grand of Rs.1 lakh each, which would be to be shared by the director and producer.

The Academy is also planning to make a new English subtitled print of each of the films. This will be sent to other festivals under the initiative of the academy and will be used for non-commercial screenings and preserved in the Academy archives.

Eight films including 'Electra', 'Aatmakatha', Janaki', Veetilekkulla Vazhy', 'Yugapurushan', 'Chithrakuzhal' and 'Makaramanju' have been selected for the Malayalam Cinema section.

15th IFFK will have T V Chandran as the filmmaker in focus and will show seven of his films. The year's Aravindan Memorial lecture will be held on the theme “the Journey of Bringing Asian Cinema to Centre State.” Over 8,000 delegates and eminent filmmakers are expected to attend the event.
