In a heartbreaking incident, a 14-month-old boy from Gujarat's Jamnagar, the first case of coronavirus to be registered in the entire Jamnagar district, died of multiple organ failure on Tuesday.
The toddler, who was the son of migrant labourers with no travel history, was admitted to the hospital on April 5 in a critical condition. The boy was on ventilator support ever since he tested positive for the virus and died Tuesday evening of multiple organ failure. His parents are from Uttar Pradesh and work as casual labourers in factories in the port city. They have no travel history in the recent past, are asymptomatic (not showing symptoms) and kept under quarantine. The locality where the couple resides in Dared village near Jamnagar city has been put under complete lockdown to check the spread of the virus, an official reportedly stated, according to a news agency.
Gujarat has registered 175 cases of COVID-19 and 16 deaths so far. As of April 8 morning, the number of people who have tested positive for COVID-19 in India has crossed 5360. Tamil Nadu has reported 690 cases so far.
