13 killed after falling into well at marriage function

As many as thirteen women and children (girls), died after falling into a well while performing a marriage ritual in Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar district on Thursday. According to the local police, the deceased were all wedding guests and were sitting on an iron slab that covered an old well. Due to heavy load, the slab collapsed and they all fell into the well. The well is said to be very deep, and was full of water. Though they were rushed to the hospital, they were declared dead. At least 10 people were also injured in the incident at the village under the Nebua Naurangiya police station area.
Condoling the loss of lives, Prime Minister Mod described the incident as heart-rending. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also expressed his condolences over the tragedy. The district magistrate said a compensation of rupees 4 lakh would be paid to the family of each person killed in the incident.
