In a shocking incident, 12 children, all of who are below the age of five, from Maharashtra were given hand sanitiser instead of polio drops in Maharashtra’s Yavatmal district on Monday. The incident occurred on January 31 at the Bhanbora Primary Health Centre in Kapsikopri village during the National Pulse Polio vaccination drive for children aged between 1 and 5.

Reportedly, the children started vomiting and showing symptoms of uneasiness after being given sanitizer drops. Yavatmal council chief executive officer Shrikrishna Panchal stated that the children are now doing fine now and three officials including a health worker, doctor, and ASHA worker will be suspended in connection with the incident. "An inquiry is underway and orders will be issued to suspend all the three healthcare workers," Panchal said.
