PUBG is an online battle royale game that gained traction soon after its PC and Xbox One launch and became a sensation when the game was released on iOS and Android devices. PUBG is one of the most successful and highly addictive games that is popular among young adults across the globe right now. However, the adverse effects of the game has led 11-year-old Mumbai resident Ahad Nizam to file a Public Litigation Interest (PIL) in the Bombay High Court. Ahad seeks a ban on the game in Maharashtra in his PIL.

Ahad wrote to the Chief Minister, Education Minister, Home Minister, the Ministry of Electronics and IT, with help from his mother, stating that he began to feel low and negative ever since he started playing the game, and hence appealed to the government. Ahad’s lawyer added, “The petition has also sought a direction to the central government to form an Online Ethics Review Committee for periodical checking of such violence-oriented online content.” The hearing for the case is expected to happen soon.
