The Telegana government has launched the Hyderabad City Wi-Fi` project and networks have been installed at 1,000 locations in the city. Users will have 30 minutes of free wi-fi at an assured 5-10 Mbps.

This ambitious project aims to have 3,000 wi-fi hotspots around the city, locations of which have already been identified; the remaining 2,000 will be completed in the next three months, according to Telengana IT Secretary Jayesh Ranjan. He added that appropriate security measures will be taken to discourage misuse of wi-fi.

After achieving stability in Hyderabad, the project will soon be extended to Warangal, Karimnagar and Khammam districts of Telengana. The Telengana government has worked with the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) to bring this project to its feet.
