TN govt withdraws order to change names of 1000 places!

The Tamil Nadu government has withdrawn its recent order to change the English versions of Tamil names of more than 1,000 localities in the state with Tamil names, stating that it was a move to align with the views by experts on transliteration standards.
Following the withdrawal of the name change order, DMK president MK Stalin called the TN govt a u-turn government. Now, the Minister for Tamil Official Language and Tamil Culture, K Pandiarajan announced that the government will reissue the order with necessary changes.
His tweet read "We are working on alignment of views by experts on Transliteration standards from Tamil to English. Hopefully, we should get this released in 2/3 days.The GO on the change of English names for Tamil names for places has been withdrawn. Will absorb all feedback and reissue (it) shortly". Earlier, many netizens had slammed the name change and the timing of this activity during Coronavirus pandemic.
