As many as 100 MLAs of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly have applied for and been granted ‘mass leave’ to attend various marriages.
The 100-odd legislators, all belonging to the ruling Telugu Desam Party, had applied for leave simultaneously and on similar dates, addressing separate leave applications to Speaker Kotella Sivaparasad Rao. The MLAs have requested for grant of leave for today and tomorrow along with the weekend holidays.
More than 1.2 lakh marriages are scheduled to take place in Andhra Pradesh alone during the ensuing week. MLAs representing various constituencies feel obliged to attend to some of the above-said weddings and hence the ‘mass leave applications’ wherein the MLAs have requested the Speaker to ‘excuse’ them from attending the Assembly’s proceedings on Monday and Tuesday.
The Legislative Assembly, which convened in the first week of this month, will be in Session till Thursday (30th November). Opposition YSR Congress Party, which has 67 MLAs in the Assembly, is boycotting the whole session.
