Nitin Gadkar, the minister for Road and highways in his address to the media mentioned that over 100 bridges in and around India are on the verge of a collapse and require immediate attention in terms of maintenance.

The minister mentioned that after the accident in Maharashtra last year, the ministry undertook an audit of 1.6 Lakh bridges in the country and found more than 100 bridges were in depleted condition. He further added that the cause of delay in maintainence of various roadways was due to problems with land acquisition and clearance from state.
