After Nenu Naa Rakshasi, Businessman and Devudu Chesina Manushulu, one would be forgiven to describe Puri Jagannadh as yet another charlatan-in-the-making. These three films neither behoved of his stardom nor had a structure to speak of. Their stories were downright ridiculous. Their scenes were conceived as if the maker thought that the audience were in awe of him.

Is this alarming mediocrity a direct fallout of his complacency and conceitedness? Films like Super, Bujjigadu and Ek Niranjan, though flops, at least had marks of the product of a mellow screenplay writer/filmmaker. Such is not the case with his later day films.

Had Businessman failed, Puri might have had the need to do soul-searching. Fortunately for the likes of PJ, and unfortunately for the rest of us, films starring big stars and released on a vast scale cannot possibly fail in this era. Thus, a Businessman or a Racha or a Julayi can be either hits, super hits, or (worse) greatest money spinners in the opening week.
