Speaking at a success meet of Poola Rangadu, veteran director Dasari patted Sunil's back, and said that he was happy for the comedian-turned-lead actor. "It is rare to see a comedian scoring a hit by turning into a lead actor. Only Raju Babu, Nagesh and Chalam were able to achieve this distinction in the past. My films with Raju Babu, like Tatha Manavadu, Yevariki Vare Yamuna Teere, Tirupathi were all 100-days hits. Sunil is continuing this tradition", he said.

Dasari appreciated Sunil for going for six-pack abs, since the story demanded it. He said that he was initially of the view that there was no need for him to build such a body. He had a change of opinion when he watched the film. "The director scored a victory by making it apt for the story."

Sunil said that his mother and the likes of Kota Srinivasa Rao expressed disappointment and chided him for becoming lean for the sake of the look. He attributed the film's success to its music, cinematography and direction.
