Creative director Singeetham Srinivasa Rao, who gave memorable hits like 'Pushpaka Vimanam, Vichitra Sodarulu, Aditya 369, Bhairava Dweepam and Brindavanam, was felicitated by Kinnera Cultural and Educational Societies on the occasion of the popular director's 75th birthday on September 21. The programme was held at Sri Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan amidst a host of film personalities. Nandamuri Balakrishna attended the programme as chief guest. Those who attended the function included YVS Choudary, VN Aditya, Dr C Narayana Reddy, D Ramanaidu, Gummadi Venkateswara Rao, Rajendra Prasad and Kala Tapaswi K Viswanath. Earlier Madhavapeddi Suresh, Hemachander, Chaitra and several others rendered the film songs to entertain the audiences.
Speaking on the occasion, Balakrishna says, 'I shaved my beard and tried to look young while attending the function. However, Singeetham is looking younger than me. I just don't believe that he had completed 75 years by now. Incidentally, the Telugu Cinema also completed 75 years in the same year. We just can't forget the experiments he made on the celluloid. One needs guts to do films like 'Pushpaka Vimanam, Vichitra Sodarulu and Aditya 369'. I can't forget 'Aditya 369 and Bhairava Dweepam' films which remained milestones in my film career. I wish Singeetham Srinivasa Rao do many more good films and reveal the greatness of Indian cinema in general and Telugu cinema in particular across the world.'
Producer cum director YVS Choudary says, 'Singeetham continued to direct films right from 50s till date and he held the megaphone for about 60 films. He is a great director and is a torch-bearer and path shower for all of us. Every film he did is an encyclopedia for every director. I wish a happy birthday to Singeetham Srinivasa Rao.'
Director VN Aditya says, 'A rice grain will be enough to know whether the entire rice was cooked well or not. When it comes to Singeetham, 'Pushpaka Vimanam' will be just enough to say what he is. I wish that his life history be penned by someone, so that it will remain a guide for all the directors. I wish him a successful birthday.'
Rajendra Prasad says, 'I came from NTR's family. But I used to call Singeetham and his wife as 'Uncle' (Babai) and 'Aunt' (Pinni). I have got an opportunity to work with Singeetham in 'Brindavanam'. Basically, Singeetham is a good learner. He learnt the 2D and 3D technical work in just two months and was able to teach the intricacies in it to the technicians again. It is a festival time for the Telugu film artiste, when such a great personality is celebrating his 75th birthday.'
Gummadi Venkateswara Rao says, 'Recently, a politician commented that the values in Telugu cinema have come down. But, where are the values in any sector? But I can reiterate that the film industry is maintaining the standards and values even now. When it comes to politics, people will value the person only till he remains in power. But here in the film industry, everyone will honor and give more value, even as our age is going up. There is a criticism that good films are not coming up like the earlier generation. I can say that everything must change with the changing times. It is Singeetham Srinivasa Rao, who made films that could be watched by the entire family together, right from the old times to this time. The Telugu cinema is proud to felicitate such great personality.'
Padmabhushan C Narayana Reddy says, 'I too completed 75 years four months ago. Though he is younger than me by four months, he is a great personality in his chosen field. I wish him all the best on this great day.'
D Ramanaidu and several others also spoke. Later, Balakrishna honored Singeetham Srinivasa Rao with a memento, and Dr C Narayana Reddy unveiled a book titled 'Karaju Kathalu' penned by Singeetham Srinivasa Rao.
